
so the story about this picture is as follows (from a letter to my uncle Dicko from his aunt, Katherina Flanagan):
"Your grandmother [Catherine P. Flanagan] wanted a family group but your grandfather [John S. Flanagan] who had been a long-time bachelor would have none of those pictures which showed a child upon the knee of the parents, with the other offspring draped around. One of his friends, a cartoonist drew the picutes -- a watercolor, and the heads of the characters were taken from photographs. ... Uncle Newman's birthday is the 15th and a copy of this will be presented to him. He is in a red polka dotted dress, and I in a lavendar one. No wonder he did not want this in a rectory."
